Sabine Dörry

Sabine is a financial geographer working at the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research. Building on previous research positions and visits in Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Oxford, Amsterdam and Singapore, her work focuses on the financial industry organised in and influencing the world’s leading financial centres. Sabine is interested in developing alternative ways to analyse the global financial system, and how shifts towards “sustainable finance” and technological immersion affect financial activities, institutions and regional development.

Christian Schulz  

Christian is an economic geographer, working in the Department of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Luxembourg (full professor since 2006). Trained in Germany, France and Canada, he started focusing on sustainability related questions in the 1990s, and largely contributed to the field of Environmental Economic Geography since. Recent and ongoing research projects deal with green building transitions, circular economy approaches, and the notion of post-growth and alternative economies in relation to regional and local development.

Elena Emrick-Schmitz 

Elena is a German-American PhD student who joined in August 2020 after having worked as a consultant for the financial sector specialised in sustainable finance. With international finance and sustainable development studies in Germany, South Korea and the UK, her research focus lies on the interlinkage between sustainable finance activities and community economies in support of regional sustainability transitions.

Nicolas Hercelin 

Nicolas joined the AltFin project as a PhD student in August 2020. He holds a MA in political science from the Université Catholique de Louvain and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Before joining the project, he worked in a finance-related NGOs in Brussels for almost two years. Nicolas is interested in the financial and economic valuation of resources related to the European energy transitions.

Kristin Zlatanova 

Kristin joined the AltFin team as a student assistant during her Master’s studies in Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Luxembourg. She is from Bulgaria, and previously studied in the Netherlands. Her Master’s thesis topic reflects her interdisciplinary interests – she is researching the way artistic practices challenge capitalocentric logics of space, work and value, and their transformative potential towards a post-growth transition.
